Works under progress to provide drinking water in GHMC and its peripheral areas under Mission Bhagiratha

Hyderabad 14 March (Munsif News) : Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, IT and Industries, K.Tarak Rama Rao said that the works are in progress to provide drinking water in the entire GHMC and its peripheral areas under Mission Bhagiratha.

Answering to the questions raised by the members across the party line, who complained that already summer season started and the water supply is coming down particularly in Old City of Hyderabad were the water is being supplies in some areas once in a week and demanded to supply water through water tankers.

The Minister said at present a quantum of 430 Mgd is being supplied in the entire are of Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board, he said the Board financial condition is not good as it is getting loss of Rs. 50 crores to Rs. 60 crores every month. Inspite of it, works are going on such as constructing reservoirs, replacing old lines and laying new lines undedr Mission Bhagiratha, he said water supply network project to 190 villages and habitations situated beyond GHMC area and within ORR limits also has been taken up which is in progress. The water supply project for peripheral municipal circles consists of construction of 56 Nos. of storage reservoirs and laying of inlet feeder mains, outlet and distribution network for a length of 1900 km at a cost of Rs. 1900 crores with Rs. 1700 crores HUDCO loan and balance Rs. 200 crores through Budgetary support of State government. So far incurred Rs. 987 crores.

The project for 190 villages within ORR is taken up under Annuity Mode of Contract, the initial investment for the project is by the bidder which will be paid after completion of project over a period of 7 years. (Munsif News) .
