As many as 63 families of journalists who died with Covid-19 have received Rs 2 lakhs each. 40 families of journalists who died in normal life have received Rs one lakh each.
Hyderabad: Telangana State Media Academy (TSMS) Chairman Allam Narayana, Telangana Legislative Council Member Goreti Venkanna, Andol Member of Legislative Assembly Kranthi Kiran has distributed financial assistance to the families of Journalists who died with Covid-19 at a programme held here on Wednesday.
As many as 63 families of journalists who died with Covid-19 have received Rs 2 lakhs each. 40 families of journalists who died in normal life have received Rs one lakh each. Eight journalists who are suffering with illness have received 50,000 each.
The total financial assistance of Rs 1.74 crore was extended to the journalist’s family from the Journalists Welfare Fund (JWF).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narayana said that the TSMA is the only Media Academy in the country to extend financial support to the working journalists who died in the line of duty.
Keeping in view of Journalists welfare, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had created Journalists Welfare Fund (JWF). It was creating confidence among the journalists community. So far the State Government has released Rs 42 crore to the JWF. So far, 353 families of Journalists each Rs one lakh, 116 members each Rs 50,000 benefited from the JWF.
Apart from this, the financial assistance of Rs 5.70 crore was extended to the journalists who were affected with Covid-19 during the first and second waves, he added.
