Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has lodge objection against the Central Government, Ministry of Water Resources for allocating funds under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) to the Andhra Pradesh government for Veligonda project on the River Krishna.

The Telangana Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar wrote a letter to the Central Water Department to this effect stating that there is no allocation of water by the Krishna Tribunal for the Veligonda project. The project was undertaken on the basis of flood waters for which permission was given.

The Engineer-in-Chief said that the Veligonda project was supposed to store the flood water but the project is being utilized to divert Krishna River Water outside the Krishna Basin. He raised objections over the funding from the AIBP for an illegal project.

Muralidhar has asked the Central Water Resources Department to reconsider whether the Veligonda Project is eligible for the funding of the project which does not come under AIBP.  (Munsif News Bureau)
