Hyderabad, June 13 (Munsif News): Minister for Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Dr. C.Laxma Reddy inaugurated the Eye Bank Facility which has been constructed with the cost of Rs. 2 crores at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, which will collect eyes or corneas from the donors and later conduct corneal transplant surgeries to the poor patient free of cost, claimed that it is the first in the entire South India.
Addressing the gathering in which the Local elected representatives, Hospital Superintendent Ravinder Goud and others participated, the Minister appealed to the people for eye donation, our eyes will living even after our death if we donate them on time. He said, the demand for the eye donation is much more in the country, as it requires about 2 lakhs eye corneas in a year, but the donors are only about 25 thousand, he said, we can eradicate total blindness from the society if atleast 2 per cent eye cornea are collected from the dead bodies
The Minister appreciated the Kapadia group for its services in the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, he said more such corporate sector should come forward for improving health services and strengthening the government in almost all the fields. He said that the government is gearing up to conduct eye checkups in a big way next month, coving all the people in the state. (Munsif News)
