Hyderabad, Mar 28 (Munsif News): Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, IT and Industries has agreed to hold the meeting of the Legislators representing in GHMC area and the officials of concerned department of GHMC, HMDA, Water Works, Irrigation, Forest and Environment, Pollution Control Board to protect the lakes in the GHMC area.
He admitted that earlier Hyderabad was known as the Lake City which has now turn down to garbage dumping city, as almost all the lakes become garbage dump yard. He said that efforts has been made by the government to clean the lakes including the Hussain Sagar lake and assured to refill Hussain Sagar with coconut water, he said plan is there, to some extent it has been achieved, but again the Hussain Sagar lake got polluted, He said the process is on to completely divert the Industrial waste flowing in the Hussain sagar through nalas.
answering to members across the party line, during Question Hour, the Minister said that the government has identified 185 lakes in GHMC area, our of this the GHMC has the proposal to take up restoration and comprehensive development of 20 lakes with a cost of Rs. 287.93 crores. Under this programme, construction of diversion drains for diverting seweraqe from entering into the lake premises, construction of wet land ponds to obstruct floating debris and removing silt. He said that the works are going on the beautification of River Musi project.
To prevent industrial pollution waste entering lakes, the Pollution Control Board has directed all the industries to close the outlets which may join the water bodies, industries were directed to construct separate drains for storm water/rain water and effluents, segregate effluents and installation of Zero Liquid Discharge system to treat the effluent or become members of Common Effluent Treatment Plant.
