Hyderabad, Sept.14 (NSS): Telangana Jagruthi Chief and Nizamabad MP Kavitha today asked its New Zealand unit to conduct Maha Bathukamma Festival on a grand manner on September 24.
Kavitha released a poster of “Bangaru Bathukamma” brought out by New Zealand unit of Jagruthi president M Aruna Jyothi and general secretary P Varsha and others. The event was scheduled to be conducted at Mt Eden War Memorial Hall in Auckland on September 24 from 3 pm.
Speaking on the occasion, the MP said Bathukamma is a State festival being celebrated by Telangana women in various States, countries and across the world. She instructed the New Zealand unit to invite Telugu people from other States for the “Maha Bathukamma” and celebrate the event on a grand manner. She said the Telangana government had accorded State festival status to Bathukamma event and uniting women for the festivities to “rejuvenate our culture and traditions” to be recognized the world over.
Arun Jyothi said adequate arrangements were being made for the floral festival and was being supported by Telangana Association of New Zealand, New Zealand Telugu Association and TRSNZ. She said as part of the festivities, it was decided to conduct programs such as Bathukamma Aata and Paata, Kolatam, distribution of Bathukamma prizes and host a delicious dinner for the participants.
Those participating in Bathukamma competitions will be given prizes along with beautiful handloom saris. The floral festival and culture is being held for nine days from September 20 to 28 by involving all local organizations and New Zealanders. Representatives of New Zealand Jagruthi unit Ram Reddy, Rajiv Reddy, Telangana unit vice president Rajiv Sagar, youth state convenor K Vijay Kumar D Balaji were present. (NSS)
