IAS trainees visit GHMC office to know functioning

Hyderabad, Jan.21 : As a part of Winter Study Tour to study work done for Prime Minister’s Award for Innovative Initiatives by the GHMC, a batch of IAS trainees consisting of 20 officers visited the GHMC Head office here today.

Among various initiatives taken by GHMC, a power point presentation was given on the developmental activities, Revenue resources, Finance, Solid Waste Management and 2BHK housing scheme. Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Adwait Kumar Singh, explained the good practices for Revenue improvements like improvement of Tax collection by imposing property tax on under-assessed properties, collecting commercial activities data from Electricity, Commercial department and trade license and also with the help of vector map thereby imposing commercial property tax, who are doing business in residential areas. He also explained about Early Bird scheme, various revenue avenues like collection of trade license, Advertisement tax and Building permission fee and so on.

Addl Commissioner (Finance) Jayaraj Kennedy made a presentation on Financing on basic amenities like maintenance of streetlights, city roads, parks, nalas desilting and tapping Municipal Bonds from the capital Market for SRDP projects.

GHMC Chief Engineer Suresh explained about the ongoing construction of 2HBK housing schemes at various places and its implementation after convincing some of the Slum Dwellers through NGOs and going for vertical structures and its advantages due to constraint of land space in the cities.

Solid waste Management: Executive Engineer Srinivas Reddy explained about the collection of garbage and its transportation to the Dump Yard and the GHMC efforts in protection of environment and the dump yard capping with 7 layers. Later, director of the Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management wing Viswajit Kampati, IPS, explained about the hierarchy of the Department and its duties, like removal of encroachment on pavements, demolition of illegal structures and action team in case of disaster.
