Campaign against harassment of women in public transport launched

Hyderabad, June 21 : A campaign against harassment of women in public transport was launched today by She Teams of Hyderabad City Police. The program was held at Ravindra Bharathi in the presence of Anjani Kumar, IPS., Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, N.V.S. Reddy, IRAS., MD Metro, Hyderabad, Sunil Sharma, IAS., Principal Secretary, Transport Roads & Buildings, and Naina Jaiswal, International Table Tennis Player.
Speaking on the occasion, Shikha Goel, IPS., Addl. Commissioner of Police, Crimes & SIT, Hyderabad City and incharge of She Teams and Bharosa Centre, explained about the objective behind launching the campaign to provide safe and hassle free public transport to women commuters in the city. She said the She Teams has been successful in enhancing the sense of security amongst women in Hyderabad and with this campaign, “We would like to empower women with the freedom to travel safely anytime, anywhere in the city”.
During the program, a logo, various posters, audio and video awareness campaign material were released. The posters and stickers will be displayed in buses, autos, cabs, bus stands, metro stations and other prominent places throughout the city. The audios and video films will be played in metro trains, metro stations, bus stands and private taxis.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar appealed to the citizens to help the police to make Hyderabad the safest city in the world. He urged the public to use Dial 100 facility and report any crime incident fearlessly. HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy, lauded the city police for launching such a wonderful campaign and assured all support from the Hyderabad Metro. Sunil Sharma explained about various initiatives like She-buses, lady conductors, separate areas for women in buses and so on taken by the TSRTC for safety of women commuters. He also extended full support to the campaign launched by the Hyderabad She Teams.
The program was attended by RTC drivers, conductors, auto drivers, cab drivers, representatives from Hyderabad Metro, Ola cabs and girl students from various schools and colleges of Hyderabad City. RJs Shazzi and Sameer from Radio Mirchi anchored the program.
