Hyderabad, Nov.8 : On the occasion of Deepavali celebrations, some 50 people suffered grievous injuries to their eyes while lighting fire crackers in the twin cities and outskirts.
According to official sources on Thursday, the injured were admitted to the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital Wednesday night and in the early hours of Thursday. The doctors in the hospital said some eight persons sustained critical injuries in their eyes. The remaining had minor injuries and they were sent home after treatment. Doctors said the injured belong all age groups, including those bursting the crackers and the passersby. Besides, a 65-year-old woman traveling in an auto-rickshaw was grievously injured when a ‘rocket’ hit her.
In the neighboring Andhra Pradesh, four houses were gutted in fire caused by firecrackers. The incident occurred in Vizianagaram district. However, there was no loss of life.
